"Bad bank" under certain conditions

The readiness of the government to consider proposals and suggestions in relation to the management of non-performing loans was expressed yesterday by the Minister of Finance, Haris Georgiadis. "I can clearly express the position of the Government that we are ready to consider and promote any new proposal, as long as it is credible, well thought out and stays away from irresponsible populism," said Mr. Georgiadis.

The Minister of Finance spoke at a conference organized by the CCCI, the Ministry of Finance and the European Investment Bank, entitled "Solving NPLs through innovative solutions".

Asked whether the creation of a "bad bank" is an option, Mr. Georgiadis said that "of course it is an international choice, either of a so-called bad bank or a management company, but as we have heard foreign experts emphasize, it is a perspective, a contingency that, in order to be realized, requires specific conditions and will only benefit under certain conditions ".
