In his statements, the Deputy Spokesperson of the Larnaca Police Directorate, Lt. Mamas Parpas, stated that "yesterday around 19.30 pm, a couple of European citizens went to Larnaca Airport where they were going to travel for their country. During the weighing process, they presented eight luggage which passed through a special machine for control where in one of the luggage there appeared to be a large number of mobile phones ".
He added that members of the Police carried out a search in the luggage where "20 used mobile phones were found. Suspicions were immediately raised and an instruction was ordered to carry out an inspection of all luggage where 526 pieces of women's clothing, 97 pieces of silver, gold and jewelery, 6 pairs of women's shoes, an electronic I-Pad, 6 pairs of play glass games and four playgrounds were found. "In women's clothing there were labels that show the stores from which we believe they have been stolen."
Mr. Parpas noted that "after locating the objects, suspicions were raised that it was a theft and so the couple was arrested for the self-inflicted crime of illegal possession of property. "Today they will be brought before the Larnaca Court to request the issuance of a detention order".
Answering a relevant question, he said that "it seems that they are an individual couple, but the Police will consider whether they are part of a group".
