Night terror is a dramatic episode of panic that occurs in the first phase of sleep before dreams begin.
It occurs with a sudden crying of the child which is usually accompanied by voices and frightened expression, tachycardia and rapid breathing.
The child does not seem to recognize his mother, nor does he calm down with the conversation, on the contrary he continues to react in confusion.
It usually appears at 2-7 years and up to 12 its frequency varies. The duration of the episode can last a few minutes and is actually a normal process of maturation of the nervous system
What should the parent do?
- Do not panic
- Do not try to wake him up or make him answer or respond because you will confuse him more
- Do not forget that no matter how heartbreaking the children cry during a crisis, they do not feel any pain at all
