How your pension increases

In many cases, the insured in the Social Insurance Fund do not know the so-called "fictitious years" that they have and for which the state insures them by giving them the opportunity to increase their employment units in relation to the pension they will be entitled to.

The Cypriot state enables employees to be insured by providing them with insurable earnings without their own obligation to pay contributions.

There are specific cases in which the employee / insured person receives insurance and earns work units without paying insurance contributions himself.

When does this happen?

• For the period of study in an educational institution after the 16th year of a person's age. That is, during the study in an educational institution (eg Lyceum) a person receives insurance from the state without himself contributing financially.

• For the period of service in the National Guard a soldier also receives insurance from the state which will be counted in his pension.

• For the periods that someone receives specific benefits from the Social Insurance Fund such as:

  • illness allowance
  • unemployment
  • maternity
  • bodily harm

• For the period he is absent from work due to parental leave.

Maternity

Regarding the issue of motherhood, there are several rights in a woman's insurance and the provision of insurance to her without her own contribution.

That is, maternity insurance time is added resulting in a woman:

to acquire the right to a pension even if she has not covered her working years
but also to increase the amount of her pension depending on how many children she has given birth to or adopted.

In relation to the "fictitious years" a woman acquires the right to insurance without her own contribution for a period of up to 156 weeks within a period of 12 years from the birth of EVERY child.

These maternity provisions greatly enhance a woman's insurance gap and allow her to receive her pension.

Cases of increase in the amount of the pension

When there are dependents for a retiree then he is given an increase in his pension to meet the needs of dependents.

• When there is a spouse with whom the necessary condition is to cohabit and maintain.

(Excludes cases in which the wife works)

• When the beneficiary has a child under 15 years.

• When he has an unmarried daughter between the ages of 15 and 23 and who is receiving regular training.

• When he has a unmarried son between the ages of 15 and 25 and who is serving his military service in the National Guard or receiving regular training.

• When there is, regardless of age, who is unable to support himself on a permanent basis or when there is a spouse unable to work and who is supported by his wife,

• When there is a parent unable to work and who is supported by the insured.

• As well as when there is a minor brother or sister supported by the insured.
