The visit, which is part of the Commission's routine inspection program on cultural monuments, will involve representatives of the media, who will be briefed on ongoing restoration work, followed by questions and answers.
The visit will take place between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m.
On September 17, 2013, UNDP-Cooperation for the Future signed two contribution agreements worth € 2,5 million each with the Church of Cyprus and the administration of EVKAF for the restoration of the Monastery of Apostolos Andreas.
In July 2014, the contract for Phase 1 of the rehabilitation project was signed between UNDP and the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot consortium.
The preparatory work was completed in September 2014 and the keys of the Monastery were handed over to the Technical Committee for Cultural Heritage.
The projects are currently in progress. Phase 1 of the project includes the complete structural and architectural restoration of the main church complex, neighboring buildings, as well as the restoration of the iconostasis. Also improvements and upgrades of electrical and mechanical installations in the Church and in neighboring buildings.
The projects will ensure that the Church and the adjacent buildings are renovated according to the technical studies and plans of the University of Patras.
