A difficult battle was fought on Monday night by the forces of the Fire Brigade, the army and the Police for the release of the citizens from Attiki Odos, in the middle of the severe bad weather "Elpis", which has hit Greece.
The forces of the army, the Police and the Fire Brigade assisted the citizens all night, transporting them to the six exit points of Attiki Odos, where they boarded buses for their transportation to safe places, according to the operational plan of the Civil Protection.
At the same time, TRAINOSE, responding to the request of the Civil Protection to strengthen the efforts to free the drivers from Attiki Odos, allocated a train, with a capacity of 300 seats, to Proastiakos in order to transport the people safely to a protected environment.
Power outages occurred during the night, in several areas of Eastern Attica, with the work of HEDNO crews being hampered due to snowfall.
According to government announcements, a public holiday is being declared today in both the public and private sectors in the Attica Region, Evia, Boeotia, the Cyclades, Crete and the Sporades.
In the private sector in particular, only grocery stores, pharmacies, health facilities, petrol stations and any emergency services will be operational.
Schools and educational units of all levels will remain closed, in the above areas even today, while the distance education will not work either.
According to the meteorological forecast, the weather phenomena are expected to subside by noon on Tuesday, however, it is estimated that the frost that will be created will cause difficulties.
