He was the first bear in the world to use a wheelchair for more than four years because he had a broken spine and could not walk normally. Usko, who was found injured in a forest and was treated by "Arcturus", lost the battle for life, after being diagnosed with kidney failure and his condition deteriorated rapidly.
"Kidney failure had nothing to do with Usko's disability, which ended on November 25," Arktouros' communications manager Panos Stefanou told APE-MPE, adding that despite the disability in his hind legs, he was about five years old. teddy bear, showed a huge will to live.
According to a statement from the organization, "Usko knew the cruel face of the people from a very young age, after they killed his mother and left him injured, alone in the forest". He came to Greece in July 2015 to undergo the necessary examinations at the Veterinary School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and it was found that he had a broken spine and that he would never be able to walk normally.
Although the odds were not in his favor, Usco's caregivers and veterinarians saw in him an incredible strength and tremendous will to live and decided to try the application of a special wheelchair designed for him so that he could move freely. Indeed, Usco quickly accepted the wheelchair and adapted to his new routine, and as he grew older, he had to change three different wheelchairs in total.
In fact, in order to move freely, "Arcturus" designed the space where he lived, so that there are no obstacles, built a small pool and various special toys.
"Every year, just before the holidays, the caretakers gave him the Christmas present, a box full of delicacies that he enjoyed! "Unfortunately, this year he did not have time to enjoy another…" concludes the announcement of "Arcturus".
