Italy has been tightening sanctions on arrivals since Thursday in a bid to curb the spread of the super-contagious omicron mutation.
Authorities have announced that a negative test will be required from everyone and a five-day quarantine for those who have not been vaccinated. Previously, arrivals from the EU simply had to present a vaccination card or proof of illness or a negative test. Arrivals outside the EU already require a negative test and quarantine. The new measures will be valid until January 31.
Yesterday Italy announced 20,000 new infections and 120 deaths.
