Pfizer chief Albert Burla predicts a return to normalcy by spring, two years after the onset of the global coronavirus pandemic.
Asked by the French newspaper Le Figaro if the Omicron variant would lead to the end of the pandemic, Burla admitted that it was impossible to know if this would happen as the virus Covid-19 will continue to circulate and mutate.
However, he added: "Soon we will be able to return to a normal life" until the spring due to tests, vaccines, new treatments such as Pfizer Paxlovid, which if given immediately after infection can prevent serious illness. .
According to the Financial Times, Burla also told BFM TV that "this wave will be the last with so many restrictions" on the movement of people and societies.
He described the Paxlovid pill as a "game-changer".
The pill is already approved for use in the US.
Bourla spoke to the press on the sidelines of the announcement of a five-year investment of 520m euros for research and production in France.
