European governments are acrobatic between preventing the spread of the coronavirus during the Christmas season and creating the conditions for people to celebrate Christmas and New Year with friends and relatives, as the spectrum of a third wave of the epidemic becomes increasingly threatening.
DENMARK
Denmark to impose further lockdown measures in some parts of the country to stem recent outbreak covid-19, announced the Prime Minister Mete Frederiksen. Bars, restaurants and museums will be closed from December 9 in 38 municipalities across the country, including Copenhagen, and the final grade students of primary, secondary and university students will remain at home.
The new restrictions will remain in force until January 3.
HUNGARY
Hungary will maintain the current restrictive measures, including the curfew after 20.00 until at least 11 January.
New Year's public events are canceled for this year.
PORTUGAL
There will be no numerical limit on concentrations per household at Christmas, the government announced on December 5th. The night traffic ban will be moved from 23.00 to 02.00 on Christmas and New Year's nights. However, outdoor parties will remain banned and outdoor gatherings will be limited to six people.
GERMANY
The federal government extended the lockdown until January 10, but eased arrangements for the Christmas holidays. It will be allowed to gather up to 10 people, excluding children. The Bavarian region announced on December 6th that it will impose a stricter lockdown from December 9th until January 5th, with some relaxation for Christmas and New Year.
Czech republic
The government has allowed the opening of shops and restaurants since December 3 in view of the festive season.
SPAIN
Up to 10 people per household will be able to gather for Christmas and New Year, in a festive relaxation of the current rule that sets a limit of 6 people.
The traffic ban will be postponed to 01.30 from 23.00 from 24 to 31 December. Travel between areas will be prohibited from 23 December until 6 January, excluding visits between family members.
ITALY
Italians will not be able to watch the operation on Christmas night and will be allowed to move between the areas for emergencies during the Christmas period, starting on December 20th.
The government decided last month that the ski resorts would remain closed during the Christmas and New Year periods.
NORWAY
Norwegians will be able to invite up to 10 people home twice between Christmas and New Year. Except for these two days, the limit of 5 people in the gatherings at home remains.
AUSTRIA
Ski trips will be allowed from December 24. There will be no Christmas markets during the holiday season.
FRANCE
Movements will be allowed from December 15 and for the festive season, if the daily number of epidemic cases falls below 5.000. Today, the Minister of Health admitted that this goal does not seem to be achieved until December 15.
BELGIUM
Belgian households will be able to get in touch with an extra person at Christmas. People living alone will be able to meet two others. Fireworks will be banned to avoid crowds and travel abroad is not recommended.
IRELAND
Three households will be able to meet during the period from December 18 to January 6 and the ban on travel between areas will be lifted for this period.
BRITAIN
Up to three households will be able to be together from 23 to 27 December. People will be able to meet in places of worship and outdoors, but not indoors in hospitality and entertainment. Stores will be able to extend their opening hours for Christmas and January.
Poland
Up to 5 people can be invited to each household, according to the new rules that will be valid until December 27.
