Julia Wedel, from Poland, went viral this week after creating an Instagram account as @iammadeleinemcann, saying she started wondering if she was Madeleine "a few months ago" after hearing "something" from her grandmother.
The young woman according to mirror.co.uk also claims she has a freckle on her leg and a spot on her eye in the same places as Madeline.
She is 21 years old but thinks her age may be wrong. Madeline was born in May 2003, which means she would now be 19 years old.
German investigators believe that little Madeleine was murdered by the main suspect in the case, Christian Bruckner. However, despite extensive police searches, the girl's body was never found.
In recent months, many have taken to social media as part of a trend to show off their resemblance to Madeleine. Among them, Wedel, who compared her photos with Madeleine's as "proof" that they are the same person.
She now claims that Manlin's parents have approached her about doing a DNA test and hopes to be in direct contact with them in the coming days.
The woman claimed in her story on Instagram: "I spoke with someone from Madeleine's family and I will be able to speak with her parents tomorrow so that the DNA test can be done soon."
A source close to the McCanns told the Daily Star Sunday: “The family are taking no chances, they are willing to look into similar reports. The girl does look like one. There is no doubt about it. If what she says is true, there's every chance it could be her."
On an Instagram profile of hers, which has now gained more than 200.000 followers, she says: “I think I might be Madeleine. I need a DNA test. Police investigators from the UK and Poland are trying to ignore me. I will tell my story in posts here. Help me."
In response to questions asked on social media, the woman said she did not remember being kidnapped or any more details from her childhood.
"I don't remember being taken. I mean, I don't remember almost my entire childhood," he writes characteristically.
