The Omicron variant of the coronavirus is now suspected of accounting for more than 10% of new confirmed infections from COVID-19 in France and is the main reason behind the plans, for stricter health restrictions, in order to allow entry into public places, as stated today by the Minister of Health.
The new vaccination pass that will be introduced at the beginning of the new year will require people to show proof of vaccination for entering restaurants, but also for public transport over long distances.
With the current health regulation, a recent negative diagnostic test for COVID-19, is enough to enter the interior of several public spaces.
The plans for the new health pass were announced yesterday, by the Prime Minister Jean Castex.
Health Minister Olivier Veran, speaking on France Inter radio, also said he expected the French health service to give the green light to start vaccinating children between the ages of five and eleven early next week. .
For the time being, only children with serious illnesses or children facing additional health risks can be vaccinated.
Veran said the voluntary vaccination of all children could begin on December 22.
