Police are investigating Boris Johnson's party amid a lockdown

The London Metropolitan Police have announced that they are examining whether new complaints about a party on Downing Street amid a lockdown in the spring of 2020 need to be investigated.

The party on May 20, 2020 is confirmed by the email-invitation to the employees in the Prime Minister's Office by the special secretary Boris Johnson, which was revealed by ITV on Monday.

According to eyewitnesses quoted by the British media, the British Prime Minister was present, as well as his wife. At that time only two people were allowed to meet outdoors, two meters apart.

"The Metropolitan Police are aware of the extensive reports related to alleged breaches of the Downing Street Health Regulations on 20 May 2020 and are in contact with the Cabinet Office." cites a statement from Scotland Yard.

The new revelation has caused anger among relatives of coronavirus victims, with some stating in the media that that day they said goodbye to their relatives who did not have the opportunity to see up close for a while.

Even Conservative party officials have said anonymously that an invitation to such a party by the prime minister's office is "unthinkable", while pro-government newspapers have called it a "hypocrisy" and called on Boris Johnson to end the so-called 'partygate'.

Leaders of the opposition parties call on the Prime Minister to come to the House of Commons and give explanations, especially to reveal whether he really attended the party. Mr Johnson and Downing Street say the party case is being investigated by Sue Gray, a senior public official, and therefore could not comment on the allegations.

The shadowy Labor Minister for Climate Change and former party leader Ed Miliband called on the prime minister to stop evading. "He knows if he was at the party, he doesn't need Sue Gray to tell him." commented on Sky News, adding that if Boris Johnson was indeed present, then "he can not continue to lead the country in the midst of the challenges we face."
