Italy: Twelve arrests for mafia activities in Sicily

The Sicilian carabinieri have made twelve arrests on charges of mafia activity, extortion and support of Cosa Nostra godmothers.

Part of the money that the detainees earned from investments in the agricultural sector and in that of real estate, according to what is leaked from the Palermo prosecutor's office, was also intended for the financial support of the fugitive mafia boss Matteo Messina Denaro.

Vito Nicastri, a businessman with significant investments in the wind energy sector throughout Lower Italy, was also arrested during the operation. According to the press, in the past, a repentant mobster had referred to Nikastri, saying that he was one of the financial supporters of the wanted Messina Denaro.
