Italy - Sixty outbreaks of fire in Calabria - Two dead in San Lorenzo area

After Sicily, fires are now burning large areas of Calabria. In all, according to the Fire Department, there are sixty outbreaks in this region of Lower Italy.

Two people lost their lives in the San Lorenzo area, while trying to save their olive grove from the flames. She is a woman of fifty-four years old, and her niece of thirty-three, who tried to help her.

The flames have spread to agricultural areas around the villages where the inhabitants speak "Greek", the Greek-speaking villages of Calabria. Mainly in the areas of Bova, Rokudi and Kontofuri.

Firefighters and Civil Protection make every effort, by ground and air, to bring the fires under control.

The mayor of the city of Reggio in Calabria, Giuseppe Falcomata, asked for his area to be declared a state of emergency, while in Akri, one hundred and fifty houses were evacuated. The fire destroyed a large part of the natural park of Mount Pollino, always in Calabria.
