Two train drivers lost their lives in a high-speed train derailment this morning just before 7 (local time) outside the town of Lodi, near Milan.
Twenty-seven passengers were injured, while, according to the Italian media, the death toll could be much heavier.
According to the information so far, the train engine was disconnected from the rest of the train.
It first collided with a stopped commercial wagon and then crashed into a warehouse of the Italian railways.
The two train drivers who lost their lives were thirty years old, while the injured are not in serious condition.
The accident site will be cordoned off by the judicial authorities as soon as the first aid is completed.
A high-speed train derailed today near the town of Lodi, about 50 km south of Milan, disrupting traffic on the railway line between Milan and Bologna, police said.
According to the newspaper Corriere della Sera, rescuers announced that the driver of the train was killed and that there were 30 minor injuries among the passengers.
According to the sources of the French Agency, the train was operating between Milan and Salerno, in the south of Italy.
