Moscow: "We are a reliable gas supplier" - Blames the EU for the problems

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said today that all difficulties with the supply of Russian gas to Europe are caused by Western sanctions.

In a conference call with reporters, Peskov said Russia remains "a very important and integral part of European energy security."

Amid concerns in Europe that Russia may further cut gas supplies to the continent, Peskov referred reporters to earlier comments by Vladimir Putin that Gazprom has met and will continue to meet its obligations to its customers.

Peskov also said that sanctions imposed by the West on Russia for its actions in Ukraine will not force it to change course. "Even the toughest sanctions have never made countries change their positions," he said.

The Kremlin spokesman also referred to Britain, saying Moscow hopes the next UK prime minister will adopt a prudent stance towards Russia.

"We hope that the future prime minister of Great Britain will lean towards a more balanced rhetoric towards our country."
