The pilot of the American F-15 fighter jet that crashed yesterday morning in the North Sea off the north-east of England during a "routine training mission" has been found dead, the US Air Force announced.
"This is a tragic loss to the community of the 48th Fighter Wing and we express our deepest condolences to the pilot's family and to the 493rd Fighter Squadron," the fateful officer said in a twitter post.
The plane crashed at 9:40 local time (11:40 Cyprus time), according to the US military. The fighter, an F-15C Eagle, of the 48th Fighter Wing, was at the British base at Leiknhelt in Saffolk in the east of England, the largest base of the US Air Force in Britain.
