Despite the restrictive measures, New York will celebrate the arrival of 2022

Despite the growing number of cases in New York City, Mayor Bill de Blasio yesterday confirmed the annual New Year's Eve event in Times Square and announced details of a reduced attendance, with additional safeguards for to ensure a safe celebration. In addition to the requirement of proof of complete vaccination with a valid photo ID and being outdoors, participants must also wear masks.

The screening spaces will be filled with fewer people to allow the application of the measure of social distance.

New York is the best place in the world to celebrate New Year's Eve and will now be one of the safest and most anti-COVID, said Mayor-elect Eric Adams. The outgoing Mayor made the right move to take precautionary measures as we learn to live with COVID and fight the Omicron variant. New Yorkers and visitors alike can now enjoy Times Square and the rest of the city as we enter 2022, he added.

The New Year's Eve event usually hosts about 58.000 people. This year's celebration will host about 15.000 people and visitors will not be allowed in until 3pm, much later than in previous years.

Participants in the celebration aged 5 and over must provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 to participate in the event. Vaccination proof must include an approved vaccine COVID-19 by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or the World Health Organization (WHO). Unvaccinated minors under 5 years of age must be accompanied by a vaccinated adult to enter the event.
