A case of thrombosis, which is under investigation, was detected in Cyprus, after the administration of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
According to KYPE, the case concerns a 39-year-old British woman, who presented with a severe thrombosis, after being vaccinated with an AstraZeneca preparation and is being treated at the Nicosia General Hospital.
In the meantime, it is not yet known whether the 39-year-old was vaccinated in England or Cyprus.
Since the morning, the Pharmaceutical Services of the Ministry of Health are investigating the incident and collecting data on whether the incident is related to the vaccine.
It's too early to say anything, says El. Panagiotopoulou
In statements to KYPE, the Deputy Director of Pharmaceutical Services of the Ministry of Health, Elena Panagiotopoulou, stated that the incident is under investigation by the Pharmaceutical Services, which collect data, which will be submitted to the European Medicines Agency (EMA), which will explore it.
Answering a question whether another similar incident has been identified in Cyprus, Ms. Panagiotopoulou stated that "we have not had another such incident in Cyprus in such a serious form."
As he mentioned, it is too early to say anything, since he noted that the Services do not yet know the patient's history, nor whether they were receiving any medication.
"They may have been on medication, which may have caused this. Maybe her background was such that it was caused. "We have no history at all to correlate with vaccination at this time," he said.
He assured that the incident is under investigation and conclusions will be reached soon.
