All COVID measures in the UK are likely to be scrapped in March

Boris Johnson is reportedly considering the abolition of all measures against the coronavirus in England from next March, when the legal force of the extraordinary powers granted to the Government expires.

According to a Guardian article, the intention to "coexist" with the coronavirus could even lead to the abolition of mandatory isolation for those diagnosed positive. Violation of the isolation obligation currently carries a fine of λι 10.000.

The fine can be abolished in the spring and instead of an obligation of isolation, only one relevant recommendation to the institutions applies.

Also in March, the obligation to give your home address to the NHS's health tracking program or to provide details of the rest of your household could be lifted.

It is expected that the recommendation for teleworking will be lifted and that the use of vaccination certificates for entry into areas with large crowds will be abolished.

On the contrary, it is estimated that the obligation to use the mask indoors, except in restaurants, will probably be maintained for another period.

The government's plans to relax or lift the restrictions follow the improvement of epidemiological indicators and the assessment of scientists that the peak of the newest wave of the pandemic has passed.

Indicatively, current data show that the positiveness index of diagnostic tests has decreased from 17% at the initial appearance of the Omicron variant to less than 6% now.
