Former ballerina with Alzheimer's listened to Swan Lake and her body "woke up" (video)

The moment was captured on video and the wonderful moment that Marta C. González, a former New York ballerina, recognizes the sound, is, to say the least, moving.

The Spanish ballerina in a wheelchair now beaten by Alzheimer's begins to dance with her hands and interpret the choreography that she had presented so well in her youth.

All it took was the power of music to unlock the memory of its past greatness.

In a few moments, her hands instinctively regenerate and interpret the airy movements she performed on stage in 1967.

In the crescent of music, González is lost in her interpretation. Her movements and facial expressions reflect exactly what she had conquered decades earlier.

The video was shot last year. But as people around the world search for music contact, treatments and a familiar feeling, the clip came to the surface again and was watched on social media by people all over the world.

Among them is the choreographer and director, Arlene Phillips.

"It simply came to my notice then. Memories of the mind, sadness for those who suffer or have a loved one with Alzheimer's. "Support @alzheimerssoc and @AlzResearchUK", she wrote in her tweet.

"If music and dance can restore or keep the memory alive, that's how valuable it is."

Last year, the British Minister for Health said that dance sessions should be prescribed to more patients with dementia, in order to avoid "supra-medical" treatment.

One study found that providing patients with personal music playlists reduced the need for medication by 60%.

At the same time some other studies show how music can benefit not only those suffering from memory loss syndrome but also other medical conditions.

Marta C. González is no longer alive. But the beauty of her art continues and brings with it light in darker times.
