Russia: Journalist Marina Ovsyannikova Calls on People to Denounce War

The Russian reporterMarina Ovsyanikova called on the people of her country to denounce his attack Russian army against Ukraine.

"Times are very dark and very difficult and every person who has a political point of view and wants to make that point of view known must make his voice heard. "It's very important," the Russian journalist who became famous when told the American network ABC invades Russia's Pervy Kanal news bulletin holding placards with slogans against Russian attack on Ukraine and against Kremlin propaganda.

"The Russian people are in fact against the war, it's Putin's war, not the Russian people's war," he said.

He told ABC that with his action last Monday he wanted to do something "more resonant, to attract more attention" from the demonstrations that are being suppressed by the Russian police, "he said.

"I could see that what was really happening in Ukraine and what the programs on my channel showed were very different. "I wanted to show the world that the Russians are against the war, to expose the propaganda for what it is and, perhaps, to motivate people to denounce the war."

"I was hoping that my action, in a sense, could make people change their minds."

Marina Ovsyanikova was arrested and, after a short detention, she was fined and released. Since, has left state television and threatens to prosecute under a new law banning any "false news" about the Russian military, citing heavy prison sentences.
