"In a state of emergency, it would be difficult to hold completely free, fair and transparent elections in a manner consistent with Turkish law and Turkey's international obligations," State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said in a statement. of Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan to call early elections.

'We know that. We watch it very carefully. We have concerns about their ability to maintain it during this emergency. "We would definitely like to see free and fair elections, but there is a concern here," said a State Department spokeswoman.
