More than 13.000 migrants have been abandoned in the Sahara Desert by Algerian authorities, according to a complaint from the International Organization for Migration.
The group has complained that for the past 14 months, the Algerian government has reportedly been sending migrants to the Sahara and leaving them helpless, at 48 degrees Celsius, without food and water, who are in danger of losing their lives. The complaint states that many times the migrants are taken to the desert under the threat of weapons, while pregnant women and children are among them.
This information became known when migrants managed to reach nearby villages or when they were located by a UN rescue team. According to the organization that made the complaint, hundreds of migrants died tragically in the desert, while many of them are missing.
A video documentary published by the Associated Press shows people walking in the desert at the mercy of their fate.
