Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan abruptly canceled his African tour and returned from Senegal to Turkey on his way to Guinea-Bissau.
The Turkish presidency has said that Erdogan is returning to Turkey to watch a NATO meeting online over the Russian military operation in Ukraine, Al Arabiya.net reports.
Unconfirmed reports released by the Turkish website tr724.com reveal that the director of the Turkish Special Operations Division, Hayruddin Eren, one of the key bodyguards of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan (photo, above, from his own website) to have been poisoned while with him in Senegal.
According to this information, which refers to data from the preliminary investigations, highly toxic substances were found in Eren's body that caused him to have a heart attack.
It was officially announced that the director of the Special Operations Department of the Presidential Protection Department died of a heart attack in Senegal while the president was traveling to Africa and that Eren's body was transported to Turkey last week.
At a specialized hospital, a team of specialists performed an autopsy and took tissue samples.
The Turkish website refers to the samples taken and which were sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for a more detailed examination.
He added that the Department of Defense requested information from the team that traveled abroad with the president and worked closely with Eren, noting that Erdogan's bodyguard suffered a heart attack, although he did not suffer from heart disease.
Eren was considered a tough bodyguard and strict in his duties and was one of the protagonists of the attack on the Kurdish protesters in Washington, during the official visit of the President of Turkey to the United States in May 2017.
