The Russian anti-coronary drug Mir-19 will be effective against the micron strain, the head of the Federal Medical and Biological Service (FMBA), Veronika Skvartsova, told Russia-24 television channel today.

Skvarstova said that the second phase of clinical trials of Mir-19 showed that it was superior to existing anti-coronavirus drugs.

"Phase II clinical trials have confirmed the extremely significant benefit of this antiviral drug (Mir-19) in relation to standard hospital treatment and not placebo," she said.

In another development, experimental work to develop a new vaccine against the "Omicron" variant will not take more than 10 days, said the director of the Gamalei Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology in Moscow, which developed the Russian Sputnik-V vaccine. Ginzburg, speaking on the TV channel "Russia-24".

"The experimental work to obtain a new vaccine against the micron strain will not take more than 10 days. The rest of the time is spent on regulatory procedures. That is, procedures related to licensing and evidence that this vaccine is safe and single-gene, "said Ginzburg.

He added that given these procedures, the approval of the xmicron variant vaccine by the Ministry of Health may take 45-50 days.
