Tsavousoglou: Demilitarization of islands, otherwise a debate on their sovereignty will begin

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoλουlu has again raised the issue of demilitarization of islands.

In his statements, Mr. Tsavousoglou spoke about the violation of the status of the islands of the eastern Aegean by Greece. He said that if the islands are not demilitarized, "the debate on their sovereignty will begin."

The Turkish Foreign Minister said that Turkey is terminating the joint mechanism with Greece, referring to the hostile statements of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, as well as the inconsistent attitude of Athens in the dialogue efforts.

The Turkish provocation at the Summit

Mr. Mitsotakis raised at the EU Summit Turkey issue. "I will brief the European Council on Turkey's recent strong provocations and their impact on the stability of the Eastern Mediterranean," he said in a statement issued Monday. Greece is facing these challenges with confidence and determination. "We are a country that has international law on its side, we have strong allies and of course we have invested even more in our deterrent, so as not to allow anyone to challenge our sovereignty and sovereign rights."

Regarding energy, Mr. Mitsotakis reminded that "all European Member States today face very high energy prices, a result of excessively high gas prices, prices which - as I have said many times - are not justified by the laws of supply and demand ". That is why, he said, "it is important to bring the debate over a ceiling back to the wholesale price of gas."
