Britain / COVID19: End to requirement for testing before arrival in the country

The British government has abolished the requirement for pre-departure tests for passengers traveling to England.

Speaking in Parliament, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said: "When the Omicron variant was first identified, we rightly introduced travel restrictions to slow its arrival in our country. "But now Omicron is so widespread that these measures have a limited impact on the development of cases, while continuing to create significant costs for our travel industry."

He also noted that people arriving in England will no longer need to be isolated until they receive a negative PCR test, but will need to have a rapid test at the end of the second day after arrival.

If this is positive, they should then have a confirmatory PCR test.

It is worth noting that travelers wishing to travel to Britain had to take a negative coronavirus test before departure in order to stem the spread of the new Omicron variant.

The new travel rules came into force yesterday morning.
