Britain: Lockdown visible in north and London

The British government is preparing to announce even stricter measures in most of the north, possibly in London, to fight the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic, writes today the newspaper The Times.

The possibility of a lockdown is being considered, with the authorities ordering all pubs, restaurants and bars to suspend their operation, in the first phase for two weeks, according to this publication.

Earlier this week, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson warned that if restrictive measures were re-imposed nationwide, jobs and the lives of millions would be threatened.

According to the Times, citizens will not be allowed to meet indoors in cases where this recommendation has not already been made.

As early as last week, British authorities announced new measures, urging workers to work from home whenever possible and to close restaurants and bars earlier to fight the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic. The measures are expected to last up to six months.

Schools and shops will remain open, as will factories and offices whose staff are unable to work from home, according to the newspaper, citing a senior government source.
