More than 100.000 people died of coronavirus worldwide

The death toll from the new coronavirus pandemic, which began in China in December, now stands at more than 100.000 worldwide and almost 70% of deaths are reported in Europe, according to a report by AFP based on official sources.

By 20.30 (Cyprus time) the death toll was 100.661, of which 70.245 in Europe.

Italy is the country with the most victims (18.849), followed by the United States (17.925), Spain (15.843) and France (13.197).

Since the pandemic began, there have been 1.650.651 cases, half of them in Europe (857.233) and more than 475.000 in the United States.

Confirmed cases are only a fraction of the actual number, as in many countries diagnostic tests are no longer performed except on those people who need treatment.
