2.629 applications for the purchase of protective equipment for motorcyclists

The Ministry of Transport announces the completion of the application process for the Grant Scheme for the Purchase of Protective Equipment for Motorcyclists. 2.629 applications have been submitted for a motorcyclist body airbag purchase grant, of which 153 concern the low power category. The number of applications is considered particularly encouraging, and proves that motorcyclists understand the necessity of using additional equipment for their safety on the road network.

Due to a greater than predetermined number of applications, an electronic lottery will be held in the next few days and pre-approved applicants will be notified electronically (email) or by text message (sms) or by post. The exact date and time of the draw will be announced soon.

Applicants who receive pre-approval will then be given a period of 3 months from the date of pre-approval to submit supporting documents for the purchase of equipment and payment account details for payment of the sponsorship. Applicants who secure pre-approval, but do not make a purchase or submit the necessary information and documents within the specified time frames, will not receive the subsidy and the right will be given to runners-up.

In his written statement, the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Mr. Yannis Karousos, expresses his satisfaction for the great interest shown by motorcyclists. "The Scheme is part of the strategy and policies implemented by the Ministry of Transport in collaboration with the Road Safety Council, to improve conditions on the road network to protect all users. Our goal is to provide the tools that will ensure the maximum protection of motorcyclists, as the most vulnerable group of road users. The improvement of road behavior and the cultivation of the right culture in the road network are equally the responsibility of the State, society and each individual citizen", notes Mr. Karousos.
