July 20, 1974: When Cyprus killed… 46 years since the Turkish invasion

The day when time for Cyprus stops.

The day that changes the course of history for "the golden-green leaf thrown into the sea".

46 years later, the nightmare of that bitter summer is still alive, the footsteps of the boot of the Turkish conqueror sound again…

05:30 in the morning.

The sirens of war are heard all over the island. It was just five days after the treacherous and guided coup of the Athens junta that took place in Megalonisos and that gave the green light to the Turkish armed forces to invade the independent Republic of Cyprus to bring… peace, as they said!

In other words, they found the occasion they had been looking for for years, in order to give flesh and blood to their plans and aspirations. Women were raped, thousands were killed, thousands lost their loved ones, thousands were uprooted from their homes and property and hundreds are missing…

Even now…

46 years later…

From 1974 until today the issue of the Missing remains open.

Then our fathers, our brothers, our nieces, our uncles, by order, left Greece to serve the Homeland, all in ordered service and participated in an unequal war, contributing with heroism and self-sacrifice to the struggle against the conqueror. . Unfortunately, not everyone returned to Greece. Some were lost. They are ignored.

Their traces disappeared, disappearing after the fateful day of Attila's invasion.
