48 years since Attila – Nobody forgets, nothing is forgotten (VIDEO)

It's July. 20 of the month. We counted days, then months until they became years and then decades.

Behind the thousands of resolutions condemning the invasion and the pseudo-state, behind the hundreds of statements of support for the refugees and the families of the missing, there were graves left, babies who became adults, teenagers who are now retired, old people who fade away in the refugee settlements.

Chills and a knot in the stomach when the horrendous sound of sirens pierces the morning.

No one forgets and nothing is forgotten. No matter how many years pass. Pentadaktylos is there and he's ticking. The same with Kyrenia, Famagusta, Morphou and all our parts enslaved by Attila.

Memory disturbs evil. In the days of refugees, uprooting, fear, poverty and oppression.

Below, two symbolic documentaries about Cyprus. That of Michalis Kakogiannis and the travelogue of Melina Merkouris. In these documentaries, images unknown to many are recorded. But it is the truth of the refugee, the truth of the crime that Attila committed on our island. No filters, no hiding the truth.

In September 1974 Michalis Kakogiannis traveled to Cyprus, his place of origin, in order to film a documentary about the Turkish invasion. It was a personal effort, "without preconceived ideas, without a specific program" I went without having thought anything" said the director a year later in an interview.

Melina's trek took place a year after the Turkish invasion. In it, among other things, one of the most shocking testimonies of the crime is shown: the gang rape of a woman in Morphou. Melina secured her testimony and presents it.
