The number of children receiving the coronavirus vaccine is increasing

The increase in the number of children, aged 5-11, who receive the coronavirus vaccine, causes optimism, Amalia Hatzigianni, Scientific Director of the Larnaca-Famagusta Hospitals, told KYPE.

"Since the start of vaccination in the specific age group on Friday and until today at the Famagusta Health Center, 33 children have been vaccinated, while today another 20 appointments have been scheduled," he said.

Regarding the patients, he said that "today at the Famagusta General Hospital, which operates as a Reference Hospital for patients with coronavirus, 43 patients are being treated, of which 8 in the Intensive Care Unit, as they need closer monitoring, while three people had to be intubated. "The youngest patient with coronavirus is 24 years old and the oldest is 90, both without a history of vaccination."

He also noted that "the average age of patients admitted to the Referral Hospital is 66 years while 80% of patients have no history of vaccination. To date, no patient with the Omicron mutation has been identified at the Hospital, since molecular tests are performed on all admissions. "

According to Ms. Hatzigianni "today 22 patients are being treated at Larnaca Hospital, five of whom are in the conditions of an Intensive Care Unit. The Eden Rehabilitation Center in Tersefanou hosts 123 people, positive for coronavirus who are in isolation ".

Answering a relevant question, Ms. Hatzigianni said that "every day 2-3 discharges are given to patients, who after receiving full medication are stabilized and can be isolated at home. We note that lately the plethora of patients treated at the Reference Hospital has no history of vaccination ".

After stating that "it is not yet known how dangerous his new Omicron mutation is COVID-19He added that "it seems to be much more contagious than the rest and needs more attention from the public."

The people continued "should" strictly follow the rules of hygiene, ie distances, mask and antiseptic, while a major role in the fight against COVID-19 plays the vaccine. "Especially the repeated dose of the vaccine helps and protects the public."

Regarding vaccinations, Ms. Hatzigianni replied that "the daily increased flow of the public in the Vaccination Centers gives hope and optimism. "People go to the Centers, either by making an appointment through the Vaccination Portal or in the Walk-In, to receive the 1st, 2nd and 3rd dose of the vaccine".
