Another 104 migrants arrived from the occupied territories

Another 104 migrants arrived last night via the green line, according to Interior Minister Nikos Nouris, who stressed that "combined with the 317 of the previous 24 hours" shows how "extremely serious and important" the problem is.

At the same time, Mr. Nouris stressed that there must be effective management of the green line but "at the same time maximizing the number of returns to the so-called safe countries from which almost 85% of our migration flows come."

In statements, after a meeting with a delegation of EDEK, headed by its President Marinos Sizopoulos, which took place within the framework of the Minister of Interior's circle of contacts with the parliamentary parties, Mr. Nouris said that during the meeting a thorough briefing was made. of EDEK "both on the issue of immigration and the problem that our country is facing and this escalation", as he said, "which has been observed recently with the directed channeling of migrants from Turkey, which clearly systematically of our country these people ".

He added that these people come from sub-Saharan Africa and are channeled to the free zones through the occupied ones through the Green Line.

"I have informed about the initiatives and actions we are taking to address the problem, with particular emphasis and always focusing on the fact that there must be effective management of the green line but at the same time maximizing the number of returns to the so-called safe countries from which come from almost 85% of our migration flows ", he underlined.

The Minister of Interior also said that he informed EDEK about the initiatives and the way of managing the Ukrainians arriving in our country on the occasion of what is happening in Ukraine with the invasion of Russia.

Finally, Mr. Nouris thanked EDEK for submitting specific proposals as well as its availability in both human resources and ideas, enriching the effort, as he said, "that the Ministry of Interior pays to manage what is evolving a a very big problem for our country ".

Mr. Nouris said that last night another 104 people arrived from the green line and "in total with the 317 of the previous 24 hours the problem is extremely serious and important".

Mr. Sizopoulos thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs both for the constructive meeting they had today and for the fact that with actions and initiatives, as he said, "he tries to solve one of the biggest problems facing our country today which is the immigrant ".

"A problem which is essentially being exploited to a great extent by Turkey as a form of hybrid war against the Republic of Cyprus," he added.

It is for this reason, according to Mr. Sizopoulos, that while we should ensure that the human rights of immigrants are guaranteed, on the other hand we should not create huge social problems in our country, which will create other consequences and serious side effects".

He added that "it is no coincidence that unfortunately at the moment 5% of our population is essentially the majority of illegal immigrants" and added that "for this very reason and with constructive synergy on the part of EDEK we must support all those policies, which in essence will ensure these two elements that I mentioned. "

The President of EDEK said that they have promised the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that from the side of EDEK they will continue the contacts and cooperation, but also the proposals that they will submit and added that "the Ministry of Interior will have the responsibility to evaluate and utilize them in the way he would like ".
