The Ministry of Health provided answers to frequently asked questions about vaccines and vaccination against the virus COVID-19.

Has the population groups that will be given priority in vaccination been prioritized?

In collaboration with the Scientific Advisory Committee on Coronavirus, but also on the basis of clinical studies conducted by each company, a list has been prioritized for the population groups that will be invited to receive the vaccine.

The hierarchy prepared is as follows:

Residents and staff of nursing homes and institutions for chronic diseases of adults, and
Health professionals: Hospital staff with patients COVID-19, and in all ICUs, TAEP, Ambulance Departments (regardless of COVID treatment).

People> 80 years (priority in vulnerable groups).
People> 75 years (priority in vulnerable groups).
People> = 16 years old at high risk for serious illness.
People working in Primary Health Care centers, followed by other health professionals / staff, and
Residing in other closed structures, such as prisons and reception centers for refugees and immigrants.
The rest of the population is old.
According to the plan, when are the above groups of the population expected to be vaccinated?

Subject to the completion of the approval procedures for applications for authorization and marketing of vaccines by the European Medicines Agency and their distribution in the Member States and without varying the quantities committed to be given in each lot, vaccinations are expected to be carried out as follows:

The main goal, given that the schedules will be met, is that by the first half of 2021, the vaccination coverage of more than 40% of the citizens of Cyprus, which includes the elderly and people working in closed structures, as well as health professionals and people at high risk for serious illness. In this way, the protection of these people from possible infection by the virus will be achieved, while it will contribute to the discharge of hospitals from hospitalizations and death of patients. COVID-19 and, consequently, will protect the Health System.
