AVGOROU: Lecture by Karousos on road collisions in the XNUMXnd Primary School

Coordinated efforts are needed to address the problem of road collisions, said today the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Giannis Karousos, noting that from an early age everyone should realize that traffic education is a life lesson.

In his greeting at an event for Road Safety, which took place this morning, at the XNUMXnd Elementary School of Avgoros, Mr. Karousos referred to the Road Traffic Code that everyone must comply with for their travels and said that "the observance of the rules for safe and orderly traffic on the roads is essential as road safety is affected by the behavior of all of us ".

That is why, he added, the Traffic Code "is not just a legal document, but a rule of life and its observance is required to protect everyone's life." According to Mr. Carousos, it is very important from an early age, especially for children, to realize that traffic education is not just a lesson, but a life lesson that we should apply and cultivate every day for the rest of our lives.

"Through the cultivation of road consciousness and culture we learn to behave responsibly on the road for our own safety, but also the safety of others," he said. The problem of road collisions, the Minister of Transport continued, "is complex, as it is affected, in addition to the human factor that is their main cause, by many other factors such as the condition of vehicles." "The Ministry of Transport coordinates the Road Safety Council, which is the body responsible for shaping the general policy of the State for road safety," he said.

He also explained that the Road Safety Council sets goals and implements the strategic plan with specific actions and timetables for their achievement. One of these actions of the strategic plan is the appointment of Road Safety Ambassadors. According to Mr. Karousos, the citizens who are selected as Ambassadors or Ambassadors of Road Safety, through their actions and their way of life, function as positive role models, contributing significantly to informing and raising public awareness on Road Safety issues.

He also announced that Rafaela Miltiadou and Marina Kyriakou were selected as Road Safety Ambassadors for 2021.
