Internet scams: Thousands of euros are lost without detection

They have become gangrene Internet fraud cases. The problem is magnified since it is very difficult to impossible to solve these cases but and their referral to Justice.

According to the press representative of the Police Headquarters Christos Andreth "it is very difficult to find evidence to proceed with arrests and investigation of these cases". As Mr. Andreou mentioned, "many times the vigilantes operate through third countries and it is very difficult to request judicial assistance from these countries to investigate the cases or interrogations".

"To be suspected"

Mr. Andreou called on citizens to be especially suspicious and since they are asked to pay money into accounts they do not know not to do so and make complaints to the Police.

In the last few days, three very serious complaints were made after: On Tuesday, September 13, the news saw the light of day that cases of will fraud are on the rise. Specifically, citizens receive false electronic messages (e-mails and SMS) through which they are informed that they are allegedly beneficiaries of large sums of money, from wills.

At the same time, on Tuesday saw the light of news that they were alert by sending a false message via e-maily, in a company they managed to extract more than €12,000.

The day before yesterday, Wednesday, September 14, 2022, a 34-year-old resident of Limassol reported to the Police that, between 17/8/2022 – 1/9/2022, he was the victim of an internet fraud, resulting in his an amount of $4,628 was allocated.
