A penalty of exclusion from the sports grounds was imposed today on a 29-year-old man, who was arrested by members of the Police, for illegal possession and transportation of flares, at the GSP Stadium, during last night's football match for the UEFA Europa League, between of the teams APOLLO Limassol and OLYMPIAKOS Piraeus.
The 29-year-old was arrested by the members of the Police, when around 8.25 in the evening, during a check, at one of the entrances of the Stadium, two flares were found in his possession. After being interrogated and accused in writing he was then released.
This morning, the Police immediately registered for trial by the District Court of Nicosia, the case of illegal possession and transport of explosives, in relation to the Law on violence in sports venues. The 29-year-old had been summoned and presented before the District Court for trial of the case.
After the Court found the 29-year-old accused guilty of committing the offenses under trial, it imposed on him a six-month exclusion from the sports grounds, as well as the payment of a fine of 380 euros.
The Strovolos Police Station had investigated the case.
