CYPRUS: 83,5% of patients with coronary heart disease were cured

A very high percentage of people with coronary heart disease have recovered in Cyprus, with new epidemiological data maintaining a good and positive picture.

Based on data from the Epidemiological Group, as of May 26, of the 939 confirmed cases of coronavirus, 784 (83,5%) have fully recovered and recovered from the virus. 688 (73,3%) had a negative result in two tests after the first positive and for 96 (10,2%) individuals passed 21 days after the diagnosis.

If one considers that the number of patients who were positive for coronavirus and lost their lives is 24 (2,6%), then it is concluded that the number of active confirmed cases in Cyprus is 131.

At the same time, the prevalence of the infection in our country continues to decline, while the R index is consistently below 1, based on a total of four methods.

As of May 26, 2020, a total of 105.929 diagnostic tests have been performed (12.093,7 per 100.000 population).

Demographic characteristics
In all cases COVID-19, 50,2% concerns men (n = 471) and 49,8% women (n = 468).
The median age of the cases COVID-19 is 45 years (Intra-quadratic range 32-59 years). By age groups: 58 infants, children and adolescents 0-17 years (6,2%), 652 adults aged 18-59 years (69,4%) and 229 people aged 60 years and over (24,4%)
Among all cases, 364 (38,8%) had a place of residence in the province of Nicosia, 242 (25,8%) in the province of Larnaca, 161 (17,2%) in the province of Paphos, 107 (11,4%) in the province Limassol, 43 (4,6%) in the free area of ​​Famagusta and 22 cases (2,3%) relate to the British bases or residence in the subsoil or there was no information available about them.

It is noted that 125 cases (13,3%) were reported in Aradippou, municipality of Larnaca province. The cases in Aradippou, including a network in a local bakery production unit, are mainly men (58,4%, n = 73) and the median age is 49 years (Interdepartmental range: 33-61 years). Excluding this network, the cases are mainly women (53,6%, n = 52) and the median age is 55 years (Endotracheal range: 39-69 years).
Among the 939 cases, 20,1% are employees in the Health sector2 (n = 189) - 4,1% are doctors (n = 39), 10,1% are nurses (n = 95), 1,4% from others health professions (n ​​= 13) and 4,5% support staff (n = 42).

Epidemiological history

As of May 26, the mode of exposure is available for 794 cases (84,6%). Of these cases, 17,1% (n = 136) had a recent history of travel or stayed abroad for 14 days before the onset of symptoms. These cases were mainly directly related to the United Kingdom and Greece. Internal transmission was recorded in 82,9% (n = 658) of the cases (794 in known mode of exposure), of which 8,7% (n = 57) were related to the General Hospital of Paphos. In Aradippou (municipality of Larnaca province) 125 cases have been recorded - 82 (65,6%) cases of domestic transmission, while 10 (8%) cases had a recent history of travel. For 33 (26,4%) cases in Aradippou, the epidemiological history has not been recorded.

Deaths

As of May 26, 24 deaths were reported in Cyprus in incidents with COVID-19 (Mortality: 2,6%). Mortality COVID-19 per 100.000 population is 2,7. Seventeen deaths (70,8%) occurred in men and seven (29,2%) in women. The median age of people with COVID-19 who lost their lives are 76 years (Intra-Quarter range: 66-79 years). Nine deaths were reported in the province of Larnaca and seven in the province of Paphos, three in the provinces of Nicosia and Free Famagusta and two in the province of Limassol.

The median time from the date of sampling to the date of death was 10 days (Intraarticular range: 4,5-23,5 days).
It is noted that in 17 deaths, the underlying cause of death was the disease COVID-19 (Mortality COVID-19: 1,8%).
