The Police, after cooperating with the German Authorities, proceeded yesterday to arrest a 24-year-old man, in relation to an investigated case of human trafficking, performing a sham marriage, forgery, and securing registration with false representations, crimes committed in Cyprus in 2019.
The 24-year-old was wanted by the authorities of the Republic, who issued a European arrest warrant against him, following evidence that emerged during the investigation of the case. He was recently located in Germany and arrested with the European warrant, while after a judicial process, the German authorities approved the request for his extradition to Cyprus.
Members of the Anti-Trafficking Office went to Germany and yesterday escorted the suspect by air to Larnaca airport, where upon their arrival they proceeded to arrest him with a Court warrant.
This morning the 24-year-old is expected to be brought before a Court, with the Police submitting a request for the issuance of a warrant for his arrest, for the purpose of investigating the case.
The coordination of cooperation and communication with the German authorities was carried out by the Interpol Nicosia Office, the Directorate of the European Union - International Police Cooperation - DEE-DAS, of the Police Headquarters.
For the same case, another person, a 34-year-old man, was arrested by the members of the Anti-Trafficking Office, against whom criminal proceedings have been brought, with the case pending trial.
