Severe cold and snowfall occurred on Wednesday night in the mountainous communities of Paphos province. Snow fell in several communities for the third consecutive twenty-four hour period, such as in Panagia, Statos / Agios Fotios, Foiti and Lassa.
The president of the community council of Lassa, Elias Ioannou, in his statements to KYPE stated that the bad weather conditions and the very low temperatures prevail for three to four days, while all night yesterday it was snowing in the community. Due to the frost that broke out, pipes broke while the seventy residents of Lhasa, mostly elderly, were confined to the house. Mr. Ioannou also welcomed the Government subsidies, talking about "good news".
The president of the community council of Foiti, Kyriakos Sotiriou, told KYPE that the snowfall that started last night continued on Thursday morning, while talking about one of the coldest nights. The seven hundred residents of Foiti remain in their homes by the fireplaces and stoves, he said, noting that in several cases the height of the snow is close to ten centimeters.
The president of the community council of Panagia Savvas Nikolaou told KYPE that yesterday during the night there was heavy snowfall in Panagia and everything was dressed in white, which is why the residents were limited to their homes.
A problem of slippery road was observed last night on the Paphos-Limassol highway, especially in the section from Kouklia to Pissouri, in both directions to Limassol and Paphos, where there was sleet.
