The World Consumers' Union is protesting against a 38% increase in electricity

The Pancyprian Union of Consumers and Quality of Life expresses "disappointment and sadness" for the "without spin and without regret announcement of the Cyprus Electricity Authority (EAC), for, neither more nor less, 38% increase in electricity prices in the coming period" . It calls on the EAC, even now, to acknowledge its own responsibilities and find ways to limit this huge increase, which it says many households will not be able to afford.

He also calls on the competent Ministry and personally the Minister not to remain indifferent, because "the state also has its own huge responsibilities".

"For the 'Authority falling into many sins', it was so simple, natural and without remorse to announce the increase in the price of the most expensive electricity in the European Union paid by the Cypriot consumer. And the more shameless the intention, the more shameless the justification of the increase. "Because, he says, the international price of the fuel it uses, the fuel oil, has increased."

He speaks of "downstream of the EAC to have left the place in the middle of the production of electricity with primitive fuel oil. "A fuel that, in addition to all its disadvantages, loads our air with harmful pollutants, for which taxpayers are obliged to pay fines to the EU and especially for this purpose."

He also says that Cypriot taxpayers "were forced a few decades ago (to serve interests) to pay additional millions to buy special generators that burn gas, which have never been used for this purpose. "If this were to happen, he adds, surely for many years the Cypriot consumer would have benefited from cheaper electricity and would have been able to save a lot of money."

"At the same time, we certainly do not miss the huge responsibilities (again due to interests) of the EAC for its long-standing policies against the use of RES for electricity production by its subscribers with a ban on connection to the network of such facilities. "When she was not forced, due to the EU, to invest in photovoltaic parks herself, for at least three years now she has been promising us and announcing their operation, but we do not see it", it is noted.

If the EAC, it is reported, operated rationally and with respect for the environment but also primarily for its consumers-customers, it could today have the solutions to avoid similar increases that easily and unobtrusively load on their shoulders.
