Teachers go on strike on Monday (07/02) as a sign of protest against the way the pandemic is being managed in schools.
The work stoppage will take place between the hours of 7: 30-8: 25, while tomorrow the Board of Directors of POED will hold a press conference to explain the reasons for their decision.
Speaking to SigmaLive, the general secretary of POED, Haris Charalambous, said that "today during the meeting, the board of the organization evaluated the situation in the schools as it has been for the last 15 days. "Unfortunately, it became clear that our requests were not satisfied even with the small steps taken by the Ministry of Education, as a result of which we decided to go on strike."
He noted that "the work stoppage is a sign of protest, mainly in matters relating to the immediate revision of protocols in pre-primary and special education in a way that provides more protection to children and teachers since there are many cases."
"It is also the issue of replacements that are a scourge for schools because the positions are not filled and the needs are not met. "We demand solutions and we ask for incentives for the replacements," he said.
Finally, he said that other requests concern the immediate strengthening of the principals and the issue of the ventilation of the schools.
