76-year-old David Hunter, who is accused of the murder of his wife, Janice, committed last December in the area of Tremithoussa, says he is desperate for the trial to begin.
His lawyer, Michael Polak, told the Guardian that his client "is 76 years old and is desperate for their case to be heard". It is noted that Polak also represented the British woman who had reported gang rape by Israelis in Ayia Napa.
"He's been in custody for a long time and it's clear, after my visit to Central Prison, that he can't wait to get out of there," Polak told the same outlet.
He added that "this is a historic case, because it involves the issue of euthanasia in Cyprus. David is determined to fight every step of the way. He goes on to mention that he did everything with his wife. It is very difficult to see what the public interest is in prosecuting him for murder."
His 49-year-old daughter Lesley Cawthorne said it was vital her father returned home so he could mourn his wife properly. "I can say with certainty that he is overwhelmed. His mental health in the future is worse than it was before."
