Dr. Pana: If we do not follow the measures, they turn back as now (BINTEO)

The front page hosted the member of the Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Health Dr. Zoe - Dorothea Pana, who spoke about the outbreak of the pandemic in Cyprus, but also about the possibility of tightening the measures.

He initially said that an increase in infections was expected, stressing that the goal is not to increase the number of seriously ill people and hospitalizations. "Omicron will prevail," he said.

He added that so far 62 confirmed cases of Omicron have been recorded and 50% are young people aged 20-29 years. "Vaccination protects against serious illness and it is acceptable for a vaccinated person to be positive with mild symptoms."

Dr. Pana stated that the pillars applied by Cyprus are paying off. "There will be a discussion today about the measures, without wanting to put any more pressure on society," he said.

He added that there are cases where the measures are not observed or we use fake documents. "If we do not follow the measures, they will go back as they do now."

As for the schools, he pointed out that they achieved the goal, as the schools were left open. He stressed that there are various forms of teleworking that can be applied. "If we do not synchronize and do tests, no chains will appear."

Finally he explained that because Omicron is transmissible and will spread rapidly, then it can help make the virus more endemic. "It simply came to our notice then. "At some point we will defeat the virus."
