Two deaths and 293 new cases of coronavirus in Cyprus

Two new deaths of our fellow citizens and 293 new cases of coronavirus in Cyprus, announced on Wednesday (24/03) the Ministry of Health.

Specifically today, a total of 37,486 disease detection tests have been performed with the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test method (antigen rapid test). 293 (positivity rate: 0,78%) new cases of the disease COVID-19 detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test (antigen rapid test), raising the total number of cases at 43,286.

At the same time, 211 patients COVID-19 47 of whom are in serious condition.

The following are the current results in detail:

A. Deaths from the disease COVID-19:

The two people who died with the ultimate cause of death being attributed to the disease COVID-19, relate to:

• A 75-year-old man, with underlying diseases, without a vaccination history, who ended up in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital.
• A man, aged 70, with underlying diseases, without a vaccination history, who ended up at the General Hospital of Famagusta.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the ultimate cause of the disease COVID-19 amounts to 248, of which:

• 165 men (67%), and
• 83 women (33%).

The average age of those who die from the disease is 79 years.

B. Patients:

In total, 211 patients of the disease are treated in the hospitals of OKYPY COVID-19, of which 47 in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 47 patients who are critical, 21 are intubated, six are admitted to an intravenous intensive care unit and 20 to an intensive care unit.

C. Positive incidents Covid-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 37,486 laboratory diagnoses performed today, 2,644 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 34,842 by the antigen rapid test, 293 cases of the disease were identified. COVID-19, which emerged as follows:

• 96 cases from 737 samples obtained through the process of tracking close contact (primary contacts) cases.

• 37 cases from 1,040 samples taken through private initiative.

• 13 cases from 336 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
• 14 cases from 540 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
• 133 cases from 34,302 samples examined by the method of antigen rapid test through the program of the Ministry of Health.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were performed without detecting a case:

• 292 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
• 74 samples taken as part of the re - inspection carried out on 7^η day after the arrival of persons who have returned from the United Kingdom and are under mandatory restriction in hotels in the Republic.
• 165 samples taken under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
