Art exhibition for the 50th anniversary of THOK at Larnaca airport

Hermes Airports is hosting at Larnaca airport, until the end of September, an anniversary art exhibition for the 50 years of the Cyprus Theater Organization.

Specifically, according to an announcement by Hermes, 10 showcases with valuable THOK material were set up in the departures area of Larnaca airport, exposing to the thousands of passengers who travel through the airport every day, details of theatrical costumes, posters and programs, XNUMXD models of scenery and other objects. which are an integral historical part of the Cypriot theatre.

"Artists Elena Kotasvili and Alexis Vagianos drew material from the diverse archive of THOK to create an art exhibition focusing on the invisible aspect of the theater," it states.

At the same time, it is added, "they highlight the process of preparing a theatrical production where a multitude of objects lead to artistic creation".

The President of the Cyprus Theater Organization, Antigoni Papafilippou, stated that "THOK is celebrating half a century of life with an important exhibition, drawing rare material from its rich archive, which is being exhibited to the public for the first time. Larnaca airport proved to be the ideal place to host the showcases of the exhibition, thus giving airport passengers the opportunity to take a closer look, behind the scenes."

The Senior Director of Aviation Development and Communication of Hermes Airports, Maria Kouroupi, said that "at Hermes Airports we have always supported culture as part of the Sense of Place, which aims to highlight elements of the culture and Cypriotness of the airports. In our opinion, exhibiting works in the public space is the most direct way for art to become the property of the many."

He added that "especially at the 'gateway' of a country, the airport, cultural creation should not be decorative but declare our identity." This is what the exhibition for the 50th anniversary of the Cyprus Theater Organization does, where an unseen important work by the theater workers of our country is revealed to the public".

It is noted that the exhibition will be hosted at Larnaca airport until the end of September 2022.
