One dead and 79 new cases in Cyprus from 43,347 tests

The Ministry of Health announces that today, May 25, 2021:

- A person has died from the disease COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 357.

- 97 patients COVID-19 37 of whom are in serious condition.

- A total of 43,347 disease detection tests have been performed by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid detection method (antigen rapid test).

- 79 (positivity rate: 0,18%) new cases of the disease COVID-19 detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test (antigen rapid test), raising the total number of cases at 72,090.

The current results are detailed.

A. Deaths from the disease COVID-19:

The one person who died with the ultimate cause of death being attributed to the disease COVID-19, it's about:

- A 77-year-old man who ended up at the Limassol General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the ultimate cause of the disease COVID-19 amounts to 357, of which:

238 men (67%), and

- 119 women (33%).

The average age of those who die from the disease is 78 years.

B. Patients:

In total, 97 patients of the disease are treated in the hospitals of OKYPY COVID-19, of which 37 in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 37 patients in serious condition, 24 are intubated, five are admitted to an intravenous intensive care unit and eight to an intensive care unit.

C. Positive incidents Covid-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 43,347 diagnoses made today, 5,035 were made by molecular method (PCR) and 38,312 by antigen rapid test, 79 cases of the disease were identified. COVID-19, which emerged as follows:

  • 12 cases from 221 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 1 case of 2,492 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 17 cases from 1,559 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 4 cases from 376 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 2 cases from 844 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 43 cases from 37,468 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method.

In addition, the following tests were performed, without detecting a case:

  • 281 samples taken under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 106 samples taken from the inhabitants of Kato Pyrgos Tillirias.
